The Rota-dent® One Step™ Professional Powered Toothbrush

Rota-dent

Because Dr. Held believes so strongly in helping patients to achieve and to maintain excellent oral hygiene while undergoing orthodontic treatment, she has instructed the WHO Team to give the valuable prescription Rota-dent® One Step™ Professional Powered Toothbrush free of charge to all patients undergoing Phase I, Phase II, Full, Invisalign®, or Invisalign Teen™ orthodontic treatment. So, make the most of it!

The Rota-dent® was designed after asking dentists and hygienists what they wanted in an electric toothbrush. The result was a toothbrush with many similarities to a hygienist's polishing instrument. The Rota-dent® is angled and has very soft "microfilaments" instead of bristles. There are approximately 500 bristles in a manual toothbrush, whereas there are 4000-5000 microfilaments in the compact head of a Rota-dent® toothbrush. Thus, the microfilaments are thinner and softer than manual toothbrush bristles are, and the microfilaments can reach farther under the unattached portion of the gum than manual bristles can.

We have found the Rota-dent® to be a fantastic tool with which to clean your braces, as it can fit along the small curves of the teeth, in the small places between the teeth, around the brackets, and under the archwires, all better than any other toothbrush on the market.

Rota-dent

It is also excellent for cleaning under dental bridges and around implants.

Its compact head, pure 360° motion, and thin, soft microfilaments make it a unique and wonderful cleaning instrument. As your main tool, when used properly, the Rota-dent® will remove plaque and prevent decalcification, cavities, and gum disease.

We offer four color types: Blue on White, Pink on White, Black on White, and Gold on Black.

With a Rota-dent®, you brush at a 90° angle to the flat surfaces of the teeth, and with pressure, the microfilaments will splay and reach under the gum. With braces on, however, you must modify the angle, so that the microfilaments can reach around the brackets and under the archwires.

It is beneficial to use your Rota-dent® in conjunction with the other cleaning tools we provide in your Hygiene Kit. One excellent combination to try is to clean your teeth with your Rota-dent® first without toothpaste (as using toothpaste with your Rota-dent® can be messy), using plain water or fluoride rinse instead, and then to finish brushing by using a manual toothbrush with toothpaste, brushing the broad surfaces of the teeth and especially your tongue. If you choose to use your Rota-dent® with plain water (using toothpaste on your manual toothbrush afterward), you will see where the plaque is located in your mouth by the emulsifying action of the Rota-dent®. That means that you will see foaming anywhere that there is plaque.

You should replace your Rota-dent® brush head every three or four months - or sooner if the microfilaments become frayed. A worn brush head will not do a good job of cleaning your teeth.

Rota-dent

We offer two types of brush heads for the Rota-dent®: pointed and flat. They also come in colors that match your Rota-dent®. We recommend pointed brush heads for patients with braces, dental bridges, and implants, as pointed brush heads can reach the “nooks and crannies” better. Pointed brush heads are also very popular among patients without braces or specialty dental work.

Rota-dent

Because flat brush heads work better when there is direct access to the teeth, they can be used by anyone who has nothing attached to the teeth, including: Invisalign® patients, patients who have had their braces removed, and other family members who wish to purchase them.

It is important to use your Rota-dent® at least three times per day. In general, we recommend that if you are younger, you should keep your Rota-dent® at home and not bring it to school. However, many of our adult patients prefer to bring it with them on vacation. The Rota-dent® is a fantastic tool to use with braces and for a lifetime after orthodontic treatment is finished.
