Crown:

  • Enamel
    • The outer surface substance of the crown
    • The hardest natural substance in your body
  • Dentin
    • The hard porous tissue located under the enamel of a crown
  • Pulp (Nerve)
    • The soft center of the tooth
    • Contains blood vessels and nerves
    • Nourishes the tooth

Root:

  • Cementum
    • The outer surface substance of a root
  • Dentin
    • The hard porous tissue located under the cementum of a root
  • Pulp (Nerve)
    • The soft center of the tooth
    • Contains blood vessels and nerves
    • Nourishes the tooth

Unattached Gingiva:

  • No fibers connecting it to bone
  • Need to clean under it with the Rota-dent® microfilaments and floss
    • You can clean under the unattached gingiva like you can reach under the cuff of a tight sleeve

Attached Gingiva:

  • Fibers connect it to bone
  • Cannot clean under it

Periodontal Ligament or Periodontal Membrane (PDL):

  • A cushion between the root and the bone surrounding the root
